COURSE DESCRIPTION:
RT200L is an introduction to the radiologic sciences and Radiologic Technologists' role in the healthcare profession. The focus will be on the use of ionizing radiation in the diagnosis and treatment of disease and on the health professionals responsible for providing this medical specialty. Discussion of the requirements for the Radiologic Technology Program will also be covered. Each student will attend an on-campus lab and a 3-hour clinic/hospital visit with a current program student will also be required.

GRADING POLICY:
The grade for this course will be broken down into four segments and utilize the following grading scale.

Attendance/Participation*: 25 pts.

Clinic Visit : 35 pts.
Written Assignment: 20 pts.
Oral Presentation: 20 pts.
Total points possible: 100
ATTENDANCE
*Attendance is mandatory. Students missing a day that class meets will not be able to pass the class. It is expected that students will be on time for the start of class. There will be no penalty for the first tardy. A second tardy, and subsequent tardies, will incur a 5-point deduction per occurrence. Please note that a tardy in the Radiologic Technology program is considered 15 minutes or less from the start time or end time of the class meeting. Anything longer than 15 minutes is considered a missed class.
Lab/Clinic Visit Considerations:
- You are expected to conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times.
- You are expected to participate in all activities.
- For lab you should dress in closed toed shoes and comfortable clothes - you will be handling and moving heavy equipment.

Policy
As a student at Foothill College, you join a community of scholars who are committed to excellence in the teaching/learning process. We assume that all students will pursue their studies with integrity and honesty; however, all students should know that incidents of academic dishonesty are taken very seriously. When students are caught cheating or plagiarizing, a process is begun which may result in severe consequences. It is vitally important to your academic success that you know what constitutes academic dishonesty.
Procedure
The two most common kinds of academic dishonesty are cheating and plagiarism. Cheating is the act of obtaining or attempting to obtain credit for academic work through the use of dishonest, deceptive, or fraudulent means. Plagiarism is representing the work of someone else as your own and submitting it for any purpose.
It is your responsibility to know what constitutes academic dishonesty. Interpretations of academic dishonesty may differ among individuals and groups. However, as a Foothill student, you are expected to refrain from the behavior outlined below. If you are unclear about a specific situation, speak to your instructor. The following list identifies some of the activities defined as academic dishonesty:
Cheating
- Copying, in part or in whole, from someone else’s test/quiz/assignment.
- Submitting work previously used in this course or in another course.
- Altering or interfering with grading.
- During an exam or quiz, using or consulting any sources, consulting with others, use of electronic equipment including cell phones and smartwatches, or use of materials not authorized by the instructor.
- Committing other acts that defraud or misrepresent.
Plagiarism
- Incorporating the ideas, words, sentences, paragraphs, or parts of another person’s writing without giving appropriate credit and representing the product as your own.
- Representing another’s artistic or scholarly works such as musical compositions, computer programs, photographs, paintings, drawings, or sculptures as your own.
- Submitting a paper purchased from a research or term paper service, including the Internet.
- Undocumented Web source usage.
Other Specific Examples of Academic Dishonesty
- Purposely allowing another student to copy from your paper during a test/quiz.
- Giving your homework, written paper or other academic work to another student to plagiarize.
- Having another person submit any work in your name.
- Lying to an instructor or college official to improve your grade.
- Altering a graded work after it has been returned, then submitting the work for re-grading.
- Stealing tests/quizzes/assignments.
- Forging signatures on drop/add cards or other college documents.
- Collaboration without permission of instructor.
Academic consequences may include:
- Receiving a failing grade on the test, paper, or exam.
- Having your course grade lowered.
- Receiving an F in the course.
Administrative consequences may include:
- Being placed on disciplinary probation.
- Being placed on disciplinary suspension.
- Being expelled.
Additional Information Related to Academic Integrity
- Using AI for any work submitted for this course is not allowed.
- To avoid plagiarism on written assignments, you must identify where specific text, quotes, images, pictures, drawings, charts used in all work submitted came from and properly pay attribution to the author of the work you are referencing. When required to submit a bibliography or works cited page, you must still identify the information within the body of your paper.
- Utilization of personal electronic devices during the course without prior approval by the course instructor is not allowed.
Miscellaneous:
- No late assignments will be accepted.
- Spelling and grammar count for all assignments
- Cell phones and Smartwatches are a distraction to the class and the instructor. Please turn them to the silent position and put them away during class time. If you need to take an emergency call during class, please excuse yourself quietly.
- It is the student’s responsibility to know when assignments are due as well as what is expected. If there are any questions the instructor should be notified in a timely manner.
- All effort will be made to adhere to the posted schedule, but some adjustments may be necessary. Reasonable notice will be given in the event that the schedule or assignments need to be changed.
Participation
Participation includes:
- Engaging with the instructor and class each time we meet.
- Actively participating in group activities and discussions.
- Always using polite and appropriate verbal and nonverbal communication.
- Support the group process by displaying supportive behavior and attitude toward other opinions and points of view.
